I-88 shut down by Illinois State Police

UPDATE: Police have identified the man in custody as 51-year-old Paul Smith. He’s currently being held in the Whiteside County Jail without bond.

UPDATE: Westbound lanes on Interstate 88 are now open to traffic.

EARLIER UPDATE: A suspect is in custody and was taken from the scene in an ambulance.

EARLIER UPDATE: Traffic is moving again on eastbound Interstate 88 after it was shut down for around three hours between mile markers 30 and 46.

Patrols were in the area investigating following a chase.

Local 4 News was on the scene and saw a tactical unit being brought in to help with the situation.

An ambulance came through. No word if anyone was treated or left in the ambulance.

EARLIER UPDATE: A tactical unit has arrived as both directions of I-88 continue to be closed.

EARLIER UPDATE: Eastbound I-88 is now shut down and traffic is being rerouted at mile marker 36.

EARLIER UPDATE: Interstate 88 was shut down by Illinois State Police on Wednesday after a pursuit through the Quad Cities.

I-88 is closed to westbound traffic at mile marker 41 near the Rock Falls exit.
