East Jones Elementary
Sylvia Busby
East Jones Elementary is ready to welcome all Tiger Cubs “Back to the Jungle” on Monday, August 4, 2014, for our annual Open House. The school will be open from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. to allow parents and students the opportunity to visit classrooms and bring supplies. The first day of school will be Wednesday, August 6.
Both of the East Jones Elementary Administrators received promotions with Mrs. Sylvia Busby being named Supervising Principal and Mr. Mike Lightsey as Assistant Principal. Both bring numerous years of supervisory experience with the Jones County School District.
Administrators, faculty, and staff have been diligently preparing to welcome students to the 2014 – 2015 school year. The diligent work that has been taking place is very evident when walking down any hallway or entering any classroom. One would have no doubt that our theme for the school year is “Readin’, Writin’,’ Rithmetic, Round Up.” Yes, our students will be honoring the basic skills and applying them to Common Core Standards.
Our school will be open each day from 8:00 A. M. – 3:00 P. M. for parents to come by and pick up the new registration packets for this year. We are requesting two current proofs of residency. If you have any questions, please call our office at 601-425-9799. We look forward to a GREAT 2014 – 2015 school year as we begin classes in the Jungle.

The teachers and I are eagerly awaiting the arrival of all our amazing students on Aug. 6. In preparation for the new year, teachers have begun preparing for the New Common Core State Standards by attending professional development trainings as well as creatively decorating and organizing their classrooms.
Whether you are joining us for the first time this year or you have been with us before, we encourage all of our families to be active members in supporting education. In addition to our excellent academic program, we offer many activities for our students and families to participate in throughout the year.
