Maidstone United took a cheeky swipe at the BBC and ITV after pulling off the biggest upset of the FA Cup third round.
The National League South side sealed a shock 1-0 win over League One outfit Stevenage at their 792-seater Gallagher Stadium to book their place in the fourth round of the competition for the first time in their history. A Sam Corne penalty in first half stoppage time was the difference-maker, leaving the Stones, as things stand, as the only Non-League club in the pot for the next round.
After the game, fans on social media complained that the clash should have been shown on live TV, with British broadcasters (boringly) preferring to show matches featuring Premier League sides instead. Crystal Palace's 0-0 draw with Everton, which aired on ITV on Friday, had fans reaching for the remote while Middlesbrough vs Aston Villa, which was given BBC's primetime evening slot on Saturday, was also a snooze fest.

Highlighting the broadcasters' woeful picks, Maidstone's X admin quote-tweeted a post sent out by the FA Cup's official X account last month, which noted the third round fixtures that had been chosen for TV, Maidstone sarcastically wrote: "Aged well," along with a thumbs-up emoji.
Following their momentous win, the Maidstone bench, followed by most of the crowd, stormed the pitch at full time in jubilant scenes at the Gallagher Stadium. The celebrations spilled over into the dressing room, with videos of players and staff going wild doing the rounds on social media.

Maidstone manager George Elokobi, who used to play for Wolves, said after the game: "This result binds us together forever. This is history for the community and for everyone associated with Maidstone United Football Club.
"To see the scenes here at the end of the game, to see the younger generation coming here to celebrate, everyone coming together to celebrate a momentous win like this against a very well established League One side, it's what the FA Cup is all about. The magic of the FA Cup is still very much alive."
Maidstone will have to wait until Monday to find out who they'll face in the next round, but a trip to a major Premier League ground could be on the cards. The likes of Chelsea, Tottenham, Aston Villa are already through, and the likes of Manchester City, Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool are still in with a chance of making it into the pot.
